How did you end up in Colorado?
Moved out here after college to find some good snowboarding and found it hard to leave such an amazing area.
How did guiding become your career choice?
It started out as a just a summer job and I kind of just “fell into it.” Like many people who visit Colorado to work for a season, Boston had a hard time escaping the beauty of this great state. “I had been working continuous seasonal jobs and tried a few different things and decided this was it.”
What is your favorite (anywhere) to raft and why?
The Arkansas River because it is simply “world-class”. It is very hard to beat and I love that I get to work on it almost every day!
What are your favorite activities outside of rafting?
Number one would definitely be being a Dad to my daughter Sierra. I love getting to spend time with her and I am going to try and get her out on the river at the end of the season because she is old enough now. Outside of that, I love snowmobiling, snowboarding, and working on my farm in Salida.
How do you personally ensure safety on the river?
I try to engage the entire group in my safety talk before we get on the river. I make sure that everyone understands each segment of the talk so we can have a fun, safe trip on the river. If I get the feeling like people are confused or not paying attention, I go over it again until I feel comfortable that everyone has gotten the message.
